Copper Sun is an informative and exciting story about a slave girl and an indentured servant. This activity includes three discussion agendas that require students to use "close reading" to analyze the text. They help students understand the history of the slave trade and slave life. Students use the agendas to have a Socractic discussion or a smaller group discussion. In addition to asking questions about the book, there are links which require students to go to other sources. It is exciting to watch students hold adult-like discussions on this very serious topic of slavery.
