Before beginning the "Copy the Sentence" workbook, students should understand and be able to recognize the differences between capital and lowercase letters. Students should have already practiced tracing alphabet letters and be ready to move on to copying printed text.
When students practice handwriting on a daily basis, spacing between words becomes more consistent. As they continue to explore their understanding for the concepts of written language, they enjoy copying letters, words and sentences. Teachers and parents can use the “Copy the Sentence” workbook to utilize hand-over-hand guidance techniques to help students make correct letter strokes. Guided lines have been provided in Sentence Copybook to help with correct letter formation and spacing.
Printed handwriting practice doesn't only have to occur on paper, teachers should use shapes and blocks to help students create letters; encourage students to write letters in the air and in sand; and in shaving cream, etc.
The second half of this children’s alphabet handwriting workbook includes the Peter Pan Alphabet---witty drawings and short sentences for copying. All 26 upper and lowercase letters of the Alphabet are presented. There are no tracing letters in this workbook. It is for level 2 writers who can recognize letters and are beginning to write on their own without tracing.
Some neurologists advocate writing to learn. One states, “The practice of writing can enhance the brain's intake, processing, retaining, and retrieving of information. Through writing, students can increase their comfort with and success in understanding complex material, unfamiliar concepts, and subject-specific vocabulary.”
The Copy the Sentence children’s handwriting book is perfect for teaching handwriting and penmanship. The Copy the Sentence workbook is a great resource for the homeschool classroom and those teaching kindergarten, first grade, and 2nd grade. It’s also a great companion to printed alphabet handwriting programs such as Zaner-Bloser and Kumon. It’s superior to one-page online worksheets because it gives students a chance to get used to using a workbook format—the same type that is used in classrooms.
