This active learning task is in the format of a Word document cloze test, which provides a summary of the plot of Coraline by Neil Gaiman. There is one page for each chapter of the novel.
Students can demonstrate their understanding of the plot by completing the cloze (filling in the blanks).
It could be used for assessment or for revision. I find this very useful when revising the novel. I also use this type of activity a lot with weaker classes or younger students. I find it a great support for students with learning difficulties who need scaffolding to help them focus on core plot elements. Students find this much easier than writing their own summaries. They view it as a fun task.
There is a word bank at the bottom of each page to assist students.
The solution is also included (22 pages in total).
