This 59 page speech and language companion was developed for use with the book, "Corduroy's Christmas", by B.G. Hennessy and can be used to target a variety of receptive and expressive language skills as well as articulation/phonological skills. Included activities target nouns, pronouns, prepositions, associations, absurdities, following auditory and written directions, answering questions, early speech sounds /p,b,m,n,t,d,h,w/ and the /k/ and /g/ sounds. An open ended game is included that can be used to target any speech or language skill as well as an emergent reader mini-book.
Pages 6-9: Nouns – There are 24 noun cards to work on comprehension and expression of vocabulary from the story, “Corduroy’s Christmas”, by B.G. Hennessy. You could also use the cards to work on sentence formulation or as visual supports for retelling the story.
Pages 10-15: Story Comprehension Questions – Read the book and then have your students answer questions about the story. Use the question cards with or without pictures depending on your student’s level. (24 cards total)
Pages 16-25: Following Directions – Use “Corduroy’s Christmas Tree” activity (with decorations, presents, Santa, & Corduroy) to work on following auditory or written directions. Blank direction cards have been included if you wish to create additional directions (30 cards total – 24 printed direction cards and 6 blank cards).
Pages 26-28: Associations – There are 24 association cards (12 pairs) to help your students work on things that go together.
Pages 29-32: Prepositions – Use these cards to work on comprehension and expression of the following spatial concepts/prepositions: in, on, under, behind, in front, between, and next to or beside (12 cards total).
Page 33: Preposition Worksheet – A print and go worksheet that can be used as a follow-up activity to the preposition cards in a therapy session or sent with the student as homework.
Pages 34-37: Pronouns – There are 36 pronoun cards that can be used to target comprehension and expression of the following subjective, objective, and possessive pronouns: he, she, they, him, her, them, his, hers, and theirs.
Page 38: Objective Pronouns Worksheet – A print and go worksheet that can be used as a follow-up activity to the pronoun cards in a therapy session or sent with the student as homework.
Page 39: Bear Loves Christmas! – A foldable mini-book for emergent readers.
Pages 40-42: Absurdities – There are 18 “What’s Wrong, Corduroy?” cards you can use with your students to work on absurdities. 9 blank cards are included for creating additional absurdities.
Page 43: Open Ended Game: “Merry Christmas, Corduroy!” – You can use this game board by itself or with the general game cards to reinforce any speech or language target.
Pages 44-47: CVC Word Cards /p,b,m,n,t,d,h,w/ - Use these cards to target CVC words comprised of early developing speech sounds as you play “Merry Christmas, Corduroy!”
Pages 48-51: Initial & Final /k/ & /g/ Word Cards – Use these cards to target the initial and final /k/ and /g/ sounds as you play “Merry Christmas, Corduroy!”
Pages 52-55: Merry Christmas, Corduroy! General Game Cards – Use these game cards with the “Merry, Christmas, Corduroy!’ game board to reinforce any speech or language target.
Page 56: Ho! Ho! Ho! & Bah Humbug! Cards – Use these cards with the “Merry Christmas, Corduroy!” game board for a more exciting game.
Page 57: Corduroy’s Christmas Fun: Communication Board – Non-vocal or minimally vocal students can use this communication board with the “Corduroy’s Christmas Tree” activity.
