A great unit to engage Junior and Intermediate Core French students.
The unit has 3 main components: A research project about the 8 planets, creating and describing a new planet, and an "alien puppet play" to present their new planet. All three components come with an evaluation rubric. There are some English words on the student pages.
Students research the 8 planets in our solar system and write some basic informational facts about them in French. The research project will allow them to become more familiar with the unit vocabulary words. (Mercury has been completed as a "model" to follow.)
The class has "discovered" a new galaxy! Students will create planets for this new galaxy (called "Francovers"). A sample planet has been created ("Franiter") to model the project and expectations to your students.
Students will practice using "les verbes AVOIR et ÊTRE" as they write informational facts about their planet.
Students are also required to write a minimum of 2 negative sentences as they list things that their planet does NOT have. (A rough copy page has been included for students to gather their ideas before they create their final project.)
Students have an opportunity to be creative with how they construct and put together their planet and the informational facts. (i.e., create a poster, a mini-book, a physical model, etc.)
Students will present their planet and informational facts in a partnered puppet play. A dialogue script has been provided for students to follow and read!
You can choose if you would like your students to create Alien Puppets for this play or to just "pretend".

28 vocabulary words with pictures.
28 picture cards without words. (The picture cards are great to use for games or warm-up activities to reinforce unit vocabulary.)
2 detailed vocabulary pages for student notebooks. The pages have lots of words to help them with the main components of this unit.
30 game cards for an oral communication exercise. (Pass one card out to each student and then students ask repetitive questions to other classmates to try and find their "match".)
1 "labeling" page. Students use their vocabulary list to label the pictures.
4 activity pages to reinforce the unit vocabulary (there are 2 individual pages and 1 booklet).
TIP: Start the unit by asking students to create a title page where they need to include at least 10 things from the vocabulary list (they need to label them too to start working with the words).
