Core Skills Early Learning - Subtraction Math Cards – up to 5
In the early stages of learning addition and subtraction children need the support of visual images that equate to the numbers in the algorithm. These Math Cards supply this vital component. Images are presented with the algorithm beneath.
When the frogs jump into the pond only their legs show. The children can see the number of whole frogs left and the feet of the frogs that are taken away. Thus they have a reinforcement of both parts of the algorithm. In this way they have a visual image of the beginning number, the number subtracted and the number remaining. They can then start equating the visual images with the shape of the numerals they represent.
If the cards are laminated the answer can be written on the card in non-permanent marker and rubbed off.
This pack contains two sets of seven cards for the numeral six. Each set contains all the numbers that can be subtracted from six. Similarly there are two sets of eight cards for sevens, two sets of nine cards for eights, one set for each of nine (10 cards) and ten (11 cards).
Each set of cards has a different colored border to make it easier to sort them into correct sets.
