Cornell Notes are are structured way for students to take organized notes. On the right-hand side, students should paraphrase important ideas from the text. After reviewing the notes, students record key vocabulary, facts, people, and places on the left-hand column. After notes are complete, students summarize the text on the bottom (including all main ideas and reinforcing key content vocabulary).
Students should be referring to their Cornell Notes often in class during discussions and at home to prepare for tests and quizzes. The Cornell Notes can also be used as a tool for formative assessments on their own.
