Cornell Notes Starter Kit
Cornell notes are a great way for students to learn how to take effective notes which can be used as a study guide later. I have used Cornell Notes with my advanced learners as well as my struggling readers. I do have to model and guide my struggling readers with their notes much more than with my advanced learners. However, the benefits are organization and a completed study guide for them to use at test time. Another benefit is that they may be completed on notebook paper, which most students have.
For students who have the “note-taking assistance” accommodation, I will print out a copy of the template rather than requiring them to use notebook paper. I also will “trade” a printed copy of my notes if they have shown effort in completing theirs.
Included in this starter kit:
Detailed student instructions for interactive notebooks
Visual instructions for notebook paper
Cornell Notes Template to print out
Cornell Notes Checklist – can be used to conference with students and/or as a rubric to take a interactive notebook grade.
I’ve included all of the above documents in a .pdf format as well as an editable .docx (Microsoft Word) format.
Also available are my Cornell Notes Bundles – helpful for grades 5-10
