These organized Cornell Notes provide students with some scaffolding for text reading or lectures on the Central Dogma of Biology. Students will analyze the processes of transcription and translation in protein synthesis as well as the roles of RNA and the 1 gene 1 enzyme theory.
Cornell Notes are a great way to deepen student understanding of a topic beyond basic recall. Students are asked to synthesize and analyze the material as they take initial notes and then revise them with connections to activities and teacher led direct instruction.
The left side of the paper is used for outlining big ideas and vocabulary while the right side is for filling in details, making connections & answering questions that pop into the student’s head during the initial reading. For best practices students should revisit their notes after they have completed doodle notes (available from WISE Flamingo) or an activity to summarize the big ideas and answer questions they initially had.
