A foraging part led by Corporal James Arnold has orders to commandeer food and other supplies in support of the Continental Army at Valley Forge. They approach a farmhouse occupied by Mrs. John Chandler and her children. She does not reveal the family's hidden food supplies. By order of General Washington, Arnold and his men are obliged to take the food, supplies and a milk cow. As a result, Mrs. Chandler fears her children may not survive the winter.
