This unit has been used in my Modern Physics class. This course is offered to Juniors and Seniors at my school, and Physics 1 is a pre-requisite. There will be no math used past Algebra 1 or 2. We teach on a block schedule, so the unit may need to be modified for pacing in a classroom that is not on block.
This is a 6 day unit, with content for 4 instructional days before the test, 1 review packet (with key) and 2 test versions (with keys). Also included with this unit are plans for class research/discussion on nuclear power and energy. Topics include galaxies and redshift, the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), The Big Bang Theory, the fate of the universe, as well as unanswered questions in cosmology. Included in the powerpoint presentations are engaging videos that have visuals that will help students see the physics.
Everything is here and ready for you to begin your study of cosmology with your students. Your download will include 3 powerpoint presentations, 4 note taking guides, a redshirting activity, as well as a test review and solutions. I am also including an optional extra credit assignment over carbon dating, as well as the unit plan along with learning targets.
