Learning is about making connections! Learning new words involves connecting to what one knows. Teaching students about connecting to what they know in so important in all areas or subjects.
Visuals help students connect to new vocabulary. The first set of 30 self-correcting puzzles uses clip art of characters dressed in different costumes to introduce and review vocabulary. (I designed this to be used at any time of the year and not just at Halloween.)
Using the same characters (review & more practice), the second set of 30 self-correcting puzzles emphasizes making connections. One word to one connecting or related word. These simple connections are the foundation for learning to make difficult connections.
The last activity is an ongoing visual reminder of making connections. You may use it in your classroom, outside in the hall or on a bulletin board. It uses paper word links which connect concepts physically and visually.
