Skills formatively assessed on this short 9 question quiz include: vocab in context, inference, citing textual evidence to support conclusions drawn, and a short phrase review section. I used a fantastic passage from Cotton Mather in which he harps on the evils of children (hee hee). Kids were so appalled by what Mather was saying they didn't notice the text was a bit more challenging. Love it when that happens! I've included the passage, the quiz, an answer key, and the Common Core codes for Illinois and the exact description (in case any of you out-of-staters have different numbers/letters). I'm going to be giving these quizzes weekly so watch for more if you like this one!
