This packet is designed to compliment the book, Count Down to Fall, by Fran Hawk. It is a book that I love to use in my classroom during the autumn season. It is aligned with the core standards, contains rhyming, has counting, teaches about the different leaves and animals, and has beautiful illustrations of autumn.
In this packet you will find 5 literacy activities that students from K-3 could enjoy. Each activity has teacher lesson plans that include a 2nd grade CCSS alignment, objective, and procedures.
Activity 1: Before reading activity to promote classroom conversation: Four Corners
Activity 2: During reading activity - lesson on rhyming words that are found in the story, worksheet provided, and rhyming helper boards for struggling students
Activity 3: After reading activity - recalling story details by placing the sentence strips in order. Sentence strips have a cross-curricular connection with math
Activity 4: After reading activity - nature walk, collecting leaves, using the identification booklet to help identify autumn leaves, writing response worksheet
Activity 5: After reading activity - Fall Senses Booklet - using your five senses to describe fall
