Students will identify how many monkeys are on a ten frame after it is shown briefly to them. They will be developing a strategy in their minds that helps them quickly determine the amount. In their mind they may rearrange the image to compose the monkeys into a different combination. When they state the amount of monkeys they can justify and defend their thinking with a logical argument. After listening to one response other students may give their opinion about another way to count the monkeys.
The slides can be viewed on a projector system and counted.
The slides can be printed full page to make large flash cards for a teacher to hold.
The slides can be printed 2 to a page to make smaller flash cards for center work.
