Countdown to Christmas or Winter Break Chain is a great way to practice one to one correspondence, patterns or counting backwards. Print off the page on card stock and use a razor to make a slash near the bottom. Start one chain loop for each child. Pre--cut red and green paper strips (I use 1 inch by 7/8 inches). The boys and girls will complete a pattern using chain loops.
We complete this project on December 1st and send it home with the boys and girls. You can decide if you want them to countdown to Christmas or winter break. This year I am doing winter break. The boys and girls will add 14 more strips for a total of 15 and place strips in an AB pattern. Each night they will take one loop off. We also hang one in our classroom and I model what they will need to do at night.
