The following worksheet is a 75-minute period, common core-based lesson focusing on the Catholic Church's response to the Protestant Reformation. This lesson is taught after students are introduced to Martin Luther, the Protestant Reformation, and the spread of the Reformation. This lesson contains several student-centered activities designed to promote active engagement and critical thinking such as:
• Do now designed to review from the previous lesson as well as prepare students for the upcoming activities
• Cooperative learning activity – As representatives of the Catholic Church, students create a list of reforms that will attempt to regain lost followers as well as gain new followers. – Class discussion follows
• Secondary source reading on the Catholic Reformation
• Individually – students will grade the Catholic Reformation, explaining why, and in what ways could their grade be improved.
• Answer the aim.
