Students will understand the value of numbers and sequence them
in order. Students must compare the numbers based on the meaning
of the tens and ones digits.
There are 10 large cards that can be hand held or displayed on a
projection system. The teacher can model the thinking needed to
arrange the numbers in the correct sequence. Then students can each
hold their own caterpillar and move from partner to partner explaining
how they rearranged the numbers to put them in the correct order.
Each child justifies their reasoning and then moves on to a new student to
defend their claim about how the numbers should be arranged.
This is a great way to integrate the ELA Standards for Speaking and Listening
as well as Argumentation.
