In this game, children work on number recognition, counting and addition and subtraction concepts.
Children take turns to roll a die - choose numerals, number words or pictures. After each roll, children add bugs to their jar. Watch out for the fly swat! If this appears 1 bug must be taken out. Bug spray is even worse news - all bugs must be emptied from the jar if it is rolled. The first player with 10 bugs in their jar is the winner!
To prepare this resource simply print and laminate a game board for each player. Use either the pocket dice inserts or dice templates included in this resource. Small bug toys from the dollar store make perfect counters for this game. Children can play in pairs or small groups - 'Let's Go Buggy!' is the perfect addition to your math centers!
Four recording worksheets have been provided:
Bug Collection - stamp or draw bugs in the jar and write how many.
Critter Count - count the bugs in each jar and write the number.
Buggy Bottles - count the number of bugs in each jar and add more to make 10.
Buggy Addition - roll a die twice to add bugs to the picture. Write the matching addition sentence.
