Counting In Circles:
This is a very simple packet to build a child's understanding of number sense and aligns well to the Common Core Standards in the primary grades. It is perfect for this time of the year as we all head back to school.
The pages can be used on their own, in the order you choose or made into a book which can be sent home once the numbers 1-20 have been completed. Many teachers like to save this for their student's portfolio to use at conference time.
Students have an opportunity to cut and paste pictures into these circles that all represent a number and even practice writing it.
Because of the flexibility in design it can be used as part of your opening to talk about the "number of the day", done under guided instruction in small groups, or independently. These make great homework sheets to be used as part of a packet. You can differentiate as you see fit! It can also serve as a great assessment tool or part of a math work station for recording their understandings.
Students are challenged by this format since one choice given is incorrect and needs to be tossed out! This allows students to think in a more critical fashion. They are asked to focus on a specific number but then think beyond it about "one more" and "one less". I think this is a great addition to any math program. For older students this is perfect for intervention. Student awards are also included to motivate children to work towards a goal.
It's time to head B2S and good resources will make this transition easier. This requires minimal preparation during this busy time. Have a great year of teaching!
If you like this product please note that I have the Language Arts version of this with letters and sounds which is entitled Silly Circles.
