Counting Money Unit: Instructional Videos, Assessments, Homework
This unit is designed to be everything you will need to teach students how to count money. (This unit is for the American dollar and coins.) There are suggestions on how to use the math videos in your classroom included.
Each page in this unit that is considered a “homework” page has a QR Code. The QR Code links to a video that teaches the student how to do the lesson. There are 7 lessons in this unit. These include:
-Pennies, Nickels, Dimes
-Showing Amounts Two Ways
-Counting Amounts Over $1.00
-Problem Solving with Money
There is also an extra page that has no QR code. This is just a review of counting amounts over a dollar.
There are two different assessments for this unit. The first one is a quick check that is to be used in the middle of the unit. The other is a final assessment that tests their understanding over the whole unit.
Instructional Math Videos
In my classroom, I implement a Flipped Classroom. This means my students watch a math video for homework each night. They return to school ready to practice the skill together. For classrooms that are not 1:1 or cannot take technology home, you can also use these videos as a small group for reteaching, or for morning work. This video is accessible by a QR Code at the top of a homework page.
