Description

Strong phonemic awareness is critical to early reading success. Build phonemic awareness skills with this engaging set of hands-on activities for counting syllables.

Here's what this resource includes:

- 69 picture cards with 1-4 syllables

- 69 picture cards (same pictures as first set) labeled with words

- Syllable-oo Game, for segmenting and counting syllables

- 6 different sorting mats, for independent practice segmenting, counting, and sorting picture cards or picture/word cards

- Student response sheet

- 32 clip cards

*Please note, although phonemic awareness activities don't usually include words, the picture/word cards are included for easy differentiation. If you have students who are a little further along, they may be starting to "notice" some things about words... words with more claps are usually longer, the sound you hear at the beginning matches the letter you see at the beginning, etc. All helpful steps along the road to reading, easily encouraged with the picture/word cards!

RF.K.2: Count, pronounce, blend, and segment syllables in spoken words

RF.1.2: Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
