This is a custom-made, ready-to-use, after-reading book test for use with students in grades 5-7 who have completed reading the 2016 book, Counting Thyme, by Melanie Conklin. There are 11 multiple choice tasks and 4 constructed response (essay) tasks. The test is worth 25 points. Also included here is an answer key and a list of online resources that can be used with students to extend their learning.

Counting Thyme in a Nutshell:
Published in 2016 this is the thought-provoking and sensitively written story of 11-year-old Thyme whose life has been turned upside down now that her younger brother, Val, has been diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a pediatric cancer. In order to give him the best chance at life, the family must move to the other side of the country so he can participate in a cancer trial. Of course, the entire family will to do anything they can to help Val recover. So, now Thyme finds herself thousands of miles from her best friend, her grandmother, and all she has ever known. How will she cope?
Reading level is approximately 5th grade. Content is best for grades 5-7.
