I created this worksheet while I was teaching Old MacDonald to a group of first year recorder students. They had the notes down but in the 'here a moo there a moo' etc section they just were not getting the quavers. I had tried a few other ways of teaching about these sneaky little notes but some re-enforcement was clearly needed for this particular group.
I have differentiated the task for 2 levels, one for students who are not yet reading music but have done some counting and clapping call and response. The other is for students who have some music reading skills and have just started learning about quaver and crotchet patterns.
The activity involves cutting and pasting pictures of clapping hands into a table to match counted patterns or cutting and pasting music notes into a table to match similar counted patterns.
The sheet could be completed in class or given as homework to re-enforce concepts learned in class.
