Students will compare and contrast the numeracy cards to determine how to connect the cards,then sort them categorize them into different groups.
Students must justify and prove that the card they place in a group really belongs there. They must have a valid argument and be able to defend it.
Student will observe the teacher silently start to place cards on a display. They are guessing what reasoning the teacher is using as she/he draws a card from a pile and decides where to put the card. Does it go in an existing group or does a new group need to be started? They will cite evidence to accurately state what they notice. Concept Attainment is a gifted strategy that is good for all students to practice. Once students have the idea they can do the learning activity independently, with a math partner, or in a center.
