To introduce this concept attainment game prepare a set of cards to display on
the board. One at a time the teacher will put a card up on the board in the correct way.
The cards need to be added in a random order so the teacher is modeling how to figure out how to tell which card goes where. Move slowly allowing students the opportunity to see what you are doing. Ask if anyone can guess what is happening after they have watched for a length of time. Letting the student see you model allows them to think and reason about what is going on. This is a gifted strategy that is good for all learners to use.
After the students understand what to do with the cards they can use them with you in small guided math groups, individually, with a partner, and at a station. The cards could be used for Tier Intervention and for Differentiation. The cards could also be used for informal assessment.
