To introduce this concept attainment game prepare a set of cards to display on
the board. One at a time put a card up on the board in the correct way. Move
slowly allowing students the opportunity to see what you are doing. Ask if anyone can guess what is happening. Letting the student see you model allows them to think and reason about what is going on. This is a gifted strategy that is good for all
learners to use.
Students can work independently, with a partner, in a small guided math group,
as a whole class to sort, or as a Tier Intervention.
Students will be comparing and contrasting cards to determine how to connect
the cards together and categorize them.
Students must justify and prove that the card they place in a group really belongs
there. They must have a valid argument and be able to defend it.
Print and laminate the cards for classroom use. Print multiple sets so the cards
can be used in math stations as a game.
