This is a collection of centers, games and activities to help reinforce the first grade math Common Core standard in Numbers and Operations in Base 10:, starting at any number less than 120. In this range, read and write numerals and represent a number of objects with a written numeral. The activities can be played as a whole class (Teacher versus student) or in a small group. They also would make excellent math center activities or homework practice.
The activities includes
I have/Who Has Game. This game has kids recognizing the written word and numerical version of random numbers with number from 1-120 out of order.
Buzzing Along the Number Line. This game has students moving up and down a number line from 1-20.
Catching Flies Match Up- Student match three cards (written number, object, and number) This game has three different versions (different numbers on each version.) It also comes with a recording sheet.
Caterpillar to Butterfly Board Game- Kids move across the board to help their caterpillar become a butterfly. Students are practicing reading numbers and stating what number comes next. There is also a practice page to help reinforce putting numbers in order.
Count Your Actions- Activity where students choose a card and a number and then have to count out the action on the card.
Counting the Room- Students count objects around the room and record. Recording sheet included. Then students analyze data they gathered.
Crawling Towards 120. In this game, students race to 120 on a hundreds board.
Cut, Count, Glue. Students are given random numbers to cut apart, order, and count. There are three different versions of this activity with different numbers to practice.
Going Bug Catching- This activity practices the teen numbers. Students go looking for bugs on cards and record. Students list what number comes before and after. Recording Sheet in included.
Jumping Grasshoppers Game- Students are moving forward and backward on a number line. In this number line game the number line starts and ends on different numbers between 1-120. 6 different number lines are provided.
Missing Pieces 120 Board- Students fill in the missing pieces on the board. Two different boards are included.
Piecing together the 120 Board- Students create a puzzle out of their 120 board and put it back together and count. Helps recognize counting and patterns on the board.
Read Write Check- Students hear and number orally and write it. Recording sheet and cards included.
Slides and Ladders- Students race to 120 on the board but have to watch out for obstacles that can send them forward or backward on the board.
Whoo Comes Next Memory- Students match cards with a number sequence to what number comes next. Recording Sheet provided.
Write and Count Assessment- Blank board for assessment purposes.
Blank cards provided in most games. This allows for you to add numbers that your students need to work on the most.
