This Counting with Objects printable mat set is a great activity to help teach your pre-k to kindergartner students to count with objects in a chronological process.
Have the students use any small manipulative and start at number 1 by placing an object of their choice in the first circle. The student will say the number out loud then proceed to the following circle and repeat the process all the way to number 10. This process can also be reversed for chronological number recognition from numbers 10 to 1.
As the students advance, they will be able to go to pages 5 to 7. These pages will help the students practice their chronological number counting by having them place a small object into each circle from the numbers 1-10. The numbers are not shown in a chronological format on these pages and are randomized on each page each in a circle of a different color and size. Once the students have progressed enough, they will be able to place an object in each circle in the right chronological order without the assistance of a teacher.
To further challenge the students, have them also name the colors of the circles as they go through their number process and tell whether the circle their number is in is smaller or larger than the previous circle.
