Students frequently hear city and country names on the news and in discussions at home and the classroom. Do they know where these cities and countries are located in the world? Probably not! These task cards are the perfect way for your students to explore classroom maps and atlases to learn details about the world in which they live.
What is included?
1. There are 30 geography task cards in this activity. Each task card gives the name of a country and asks for the capital. Students will need to search their social studies books, classroom maps and atlases, or other classroom resources to locate the country and then to find its capital. Answers to the task cards are included.
Note: I suggest you do NOT use the internet for this activity. Even though an internet search for the capitals will quickly give students the correct answers, it doesn't always provide them the opportunity to see the country in its location in the world.
2. After your students have completed the geography task cards, you will want to have a culminating activity to review. A printer-friendly game of "I Have...Who Has..." is included to help students review what they've learned.
