Travel Adventure Book: South Africa
Take your students on a trip somewhere new with this small book on South Africa. This informational text is a great link for students studying the seven continents. It gives students a chance to learn about a country in Africa through text, pictures and maps.
The small book design is intended to excite students to read about somewhere new. It is not just an informational sheet, it is a book with real photographs of the place they are learning about and chapters on different topics relating to that place. As one of my own students said to me, "I like the little books better" (than informational sheets I had created).
All writing and pictures in the book are from my own travels to South Africa. After conducting pre travel research, traveling to the country and gathering more information from tours and experiences, I put it all together in a convenient small book format to share with young students. In the book, I have tried to highlight some of the more important topics I want students to know about the country.
Included in this small book are half page chapters on:
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden
Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Beach
In addition to this small book, there are several worksheets you can use with your students.
1. A six question quick check for understanding of the reading
2. Compare and contrast Venn Diagram
3. Writing pages-both blank and with a writing prompt
4. A nonfiction text feature hunt
5. Color picture cards from my travels
This is a must have product if you teach about the seven continents or global studies to younger students. Not only does it give students more specific information about a country in Africa, it links to informational text reading skills as well.
Empower your students with the knowledge of another culture though this small book!
