Students will choose a country to research.
They will then research their country and write an informational paragraph.
Then they will use the information they learned about their country to create a narrative story. They can use the facts they learn to describe the setting in their story and to create the plot for their story. ‘
Some students may choose to write a narrative by telling something that happened to them but changing the setting to the their country. Many times, it is easier for a child to tell a story about something they’ve already done. Then they can add fiction details to their story.
This is a great time to talk about fiction vs non-fiction. You can also talk about text structure as you complete the informational article and the narrative.
You could extend this by having the students also create a poem about their country.
You could also have the students create their own book using their article, their narrative, and their poem. You could put construction paper on the front and back and staple it or you could bind each book.
