This resource includes graphic organizers and activities that provide eighteen research topics for any country of the world.
The eighteen country study topics are:
Buildings (Architecture), Climate, Economy, Geography, Government and Politics, History (3, covering different time periods), Holidays and Celebrations, Landmarks, Language(s), National Heritage, National Heroes, Pastimes and Fun Stuff, People, Religions, School and Education, and Tourism.
Each organizer has an illustration of a student holding the topic name, to the right is a line to write the country name on and room for the student to add an illustration which you can either assign (e.g. a map) or let them choose one from the Internet or draw their own. Each organizer has a compare and contrast question about their country of study and their own country. There is also a short writing assignment related to a current events topic of their choice. Their are also other specific questions geared to the organizer topic.
The extra four activities are:
--- a student survey (which can be done before or after work on the organizers is completed);
--- a webquest creation activity;
--- a “design your own project” activity;
--- a template for students to create a “pinning” board for their country of study.
With 18 organizers and three individual activities, it is unlikely a student would complete all of them! They would be ideal for group work, or assigning two or three to each student and then returning to discussing their answers in class. The resource is designed so that you may use all the organizers and activities or only those which suit your needs or the needs of your class.
