To become familiar with the importance, forms, and duties of county governments.
1 class period
This lesson begins by giving each class member a copy of page 83A only, which contains several paragraphs about the importance, forms, and duties of county governments. Students are asked to read through this information and underline or highlight what they believe are the most important words, names, terms, and ideas.
Once the underlining/highlighting has been completed, you can have the kids turn page 83A face down underneath their desks. Next, give everyone a copy of pages 83B and 83C. These pages include the same paragraphs as page 83A but with missing words, names, and terms that need to be filled in to complete the sentences. A list of words to choose from is provided.
I usually offer the kids a chance to work individually or with one other person.
Teacher Instructions are included, along with a 20-question follow up quiz to measure student progress. The quiz can also be given as a homework assignment or used later on as a review exercise.
