PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This lesson features a case study on the history of the death penalty and how it was exercised in the State of NC throughout history. Students will see how Supreme Court decisions (Furman v. Georgia and Woodson v. NC) impacted changes in state laws and how those changes impacted the processes used to carry out the death penalty in NC. Students will trace the movement of the court cases through the court system in order to reinforce student understanding of state and federal court jurisdictions. Upon completion of the assignment, students will be able to articulate how the legislative and judicial branches operate in a way that ultimately increases government protection of individual rights.
