This is a template for the cover sheets I use in my Interactive Binders in my Biology classes, though the cover sheets can be used in any course that uses Interactive Binders/Notebooks.
As an Engage activity to introduce the next unit, I will do some sort of quick activity. It may be a short video clip, a brainstorming session, a demonstration, or a Think-Pair-Share, or sometimes even a combination of those. I then assign the Cover Sheet as classwork or homework.
In the middle box, students write the title of the new unit. Then, in each of the four boxes, they draw a picture about something from the new unit. They get ideas for their drawings from the introductory activity. Each box also has to have a caption and some color.
The next day, I check their Cover Sheets as a homework grade. Then the students place them in their Interactive Binders as the first page in the new unit.
I've used these for several years now, and many of the students do amazing jobs on their drawings - they often will tell me that these are their favorite assignments!
