Product Description
This Reader's Theater is for 4 students. It is a Navajo tell about Coyote. In the script, Coyote is hungry and is a bad hunter. He convinces Bobcat to join him to go and get some ears of corn. Bobcat is slow and it is far away also, he does not trust Coyote. But Coyote talks Bobcat into going to the cornfield to get the corn. He says he knows a way to help Bobcat run fast and off they go. By the time they get there Bobcat is tired and sits down to rest while Coyote makes a pig of himself. Soon the farmers come begin to chase Coyote and Bobcat while throwing rocks at them. Coyote outruns Bobcat who ends up falling and is saved only because his coat helps him blend in with the terrain. To this day though, neither Coyote nor Bobcat will go near the cornfield.

There is a short writing prompt at the end. I use reader's theaters to encourage my students to practice fluency. It is a fun way to do something that they need. Most of my scripts are in black and white so they photo copy easily. The problem with many other reader's theaters is that students spend a lot of time waiting for their part. When you have a small group they get more practice in and less off task behaviors take place.

If you like this script look for others on Native American legends at my store. I even sell them together in a book to save money! My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone and I hope that your students enjoy this script as much as mine did. Let me know how things go!
