Supporting First Nation/ Native American Literature in the Classroom
Coyote Tales, cleverly written by Thomas King is a mini-chapter book, with two amusing tales about mischievous Coyote. Coyote Tales is a fantastic read-aloud that students will thoroughly enjoy.
This unit was created to support a single read-aloud book with one to two weeks' worth of reading response activities.
Included in this unit are nine reading extension lessons and a reader's theatre script based on the story, Coyote Sings to the Moon. The reading extension lessons use reading comprehension strategies: Problem and Solution, Connection, Visualization, Summarizing, Retell as a Comic, Creating an Alternative Ending, Creating Similar Stories, Compare and Contrast
No prep, easy to use reading response pages designed to focused on each reading strategy identified above are provided for multi-learning levels. Grade 1 to Grade 6 will have success using these response pages.
