Use this quick sheet as a way for students to practice using vivid verbs, exact nouns, and more interesting details in their writing. This is a great way to work on word choice and voice in writing. I like to pair students up and have them discuss the original sentences first and work together to make the best one. Then, I'll have students share a couple of their favorite sentences on whiteboards around the room.
*Another great option for students to share their sentences is to do a "Gallery Walk." Instead of having students record their answers on the paper, have them write each new sentence on a sticky note. Then, they stick their sentences on a designated whiteboard or wall. When everyone is finished, the students get to walk around the "gallery" and read each other's sentences. Kids will love this simple activity!
*Optional- students can vote on a favorite sentence and top sentence writers get a fun prize.
