Crafting a Short Story is a 3-4 week unit that will walk your students through the art and craft of writing a short story. It begins with choosing a topic and then goes through the features of a short story including character, setting, plot, conflict, theme, and editing and revision. Each of the story elements starts with informational text about the element, an opportunity to practice working with that element, and then a way of connecting to their own writing. This can be broken up by pieces, or be given as a self-paced packet.
This part focuses on getting students to identify types of conflict in a story. This is only one part of the unit. The unit can be purchased as one file, or as separate files.
