These doodle-notes style worksheets are designed to be used in conjunction with the popular Crash Course Literature Season 1 videos on YouTube. They cover episodes 1-8, and topics such as how and why we read, 'Romeo and Juliet' part 1 and 2, 'The catcher in the rye' part 1 and 2, 'The great Gatsby' part 1 and 2, and the poetry of Emily Dickinson.
The printable worksheets encourage active listening and spur students to engage in the plot, characters, themes, history, and critical reception of each of the texts. Most episodes are about 10 minutes in length, so the mini-lesson could run for between 20-45 minutes depending on the class.
Photos of completed worksheets and teacher notes are included before each worksheet. The notes contain a hyperlink to each video. Please note that some worksheets have more than one version to account for spelling differences between the USA and UK/Australia. Ensure you print the applicable worksheet.
How to use:
1. Introduce the concept of doodle notes (if your class is unfamiliar). Google (or visit the tpt store of) Math Giraffe for more information about the benefits of doodle notes.
2. Explain that you will be watching a short video about a study skill and that students are to use the worksheet to take notes. Explain that they are encouraged to write, highlight, draw, shade, and scribble while listening/watching.
3. After the video has played, use it as a starting point for discussion about the study skill and discuss what students have written as part of their notes.
