This letter game allows students practice their letter name and letter sound recognition at a rapid pace. This is great way to review letter names and letter sounds during guided reading.
I found if students play this game regularly they will do better on AIMSweb testing at the winter benchmark.
The game is played by the teacher keeps the cards in her hand, she puts one at a time down the student to say the letter name or letter sound first, gets to keep the card. The student with the most cards at the end of the game wins. You can play two ways: if the "crash" card appears the game stops and the game starts over. Or what I found is that children just like shouting "crash!" and you can continue until you get through the whole pile. There are Spanish letters included so bilingual teachers can use this game as well. And it includes blackline for you to copy on colored paper to send home to parents.
