I have created an activity that would be great to use at the beginning of the year to introduce the scientific method. My team and I (third grade) started out the year teaching our students the vocabulary and procedure for the scientific method so that, by the time science projects were due, the students would already be familiar with it. It is also a great lesson to use when talking about the properties of matter. It involves using different types of liquids (mainly water and alcohol) to see if ice cubes behave the same or differently in the different liquids. I have included the vocabulary list, instructions, and a recording sheet which also contains a small writing element.
