Students are asked to create a design given certain parameters. They are asked to work with fractions, convert units of measure within a system, and they will need to think critically in order to complete the tasks. Mathematical terminology will be practiced (excellent for English Language Learners working in small heterogeneous groups) as well as use of measurement and math tools (compass, ruler.) Students will work with formulas for circumference, area of a circle and area of a triangle. Might be done in or out of class. Might make a good activity for a sub folder. Could be completed in small groups or at a learning center. Included is a rubric and task cards version that can be used at centers or in small groups.
