The year is 1400 and you have just been hired as an artisan to create currency that reflects the culture and daily life of an ethnic group in South Africa. You are creating currency before Europeans arrived in South Africa. Students will choose from a list of four ethnic groups to focus on for the currency. A list of suggested topics is also included. This is a great project where students can work individually or with a partner to incorporate historical evidence and creativity. The project includes a combination of writing, designs and illustrations.
Students will also learn about the phrases and illustrations of the U.S. dollar bill (includes answer key and student chart).
