After learning about physical geography, culture, industry, government, developed vs. developing countries and natural resources my students were given the task of creating their own realistic country. They were given 400,000 square miles (about the size of Germany) to put a country anywhere in the world. For day one they were then to design their country in a realistic way. After designing their country they were to make choices for their country. They were allowed only one natural resource and one type of government. For day two they were given problems based on their choices they made on day one. They had to provide realistic solutions to their countries problems. With any extra time they finished up the first couple of pages if needed. On day three they are to trade with other similar countries to better their country given the amount of money and resources they had.
