These reading response booklets are designed for developing or newly independent readers! A variety of page choices makes this a resource you can change up and use again and again.
There are 8 different half-page cover choices with room for the student’s name, the title of the book, and the author’s name. These all have a drawing space with fun borders to make an illustration for the booklets. Then, there are 16 pages of half-page reading response sheet choices (for a total of 32 half-page choices). Many are in “draw and write” format and some require writing only. The half-page format makes the read and respond activities manageable for newly independent readers/writers to complete after reading – “just right,” without being too lengthy!
Concepts covered include story elements (multiple options), sequence of events (multiple options), opinions (multiple options), comparing and contrasting (multiple options), identifying the narrator, making a prediction, what was learned from reading, questions after reading, main idea, lesson of the story, and making connections to the text (multiple options).
The reading response booklet can be completed as an after-reading activity. You could complete a new page every day after reading, complete a page every other day, or even create a whole booklet as a culminating activity after the book has been completed. Choose only the pages that you want to use and make the booklets as short, or as long, as you’d like! The completed booklets make nice mini-projects and will add to your student(s) sense of accomplishment after completing a new book.
Classroom Educators: These reading response booklets are ideal for both small group and whole class instruction!
Home Educators: These reading response booklets would make a great addition to your homeschool portfolio for end-of-year assessments, or just as keepsakes to remember books read during the school year.
