This activity is fun to introduce persuasive writing or to use with your students at the end of the year to give them a chance to "be the teacher"!
Students will write a persuasive letter to you, the principal, the school board, or whatever audience you decide. They will try to convince them to include their new school subject.
Optional Extension: To make the activity more authentic, you could "approve" their persuasive writings and allow them to develop a lesson plan to teach the class about their subject! After approving their lesson plan, they could "teach the class". This is one of my favorite end of the year activities!
