Use this creative book report as an alternative to the traditional book report. With so many kids today absorbed in video games, this report will allow students to use their knowledge of “games” and pair that with information gained from literary understanding.
Students will create a game or sport that relates to the novel they finished reading – this can be used with whole class novels (books that the class read together) or with independently read novels. This book report requires students to include literary elements that are present in the novel within their game, allowing the teacher to assess understanding of lit. elements as well as comprehension of the book. Additionally, the creative book report could be a great way to introduce new books to the class in order to gain excitement for new reading genres.
There is a rubric that can be used to assess students on their comprehension of their book and evaluate their understanding of literary elements. Also included, is an example of a game or sport book report.
