I designed this project for my third graders as the culminating activity following a unit on land forms and map reading. The directions page is designed as a checklist so that students can check off each requirement as it is met. The idea is for students to design a map of their own island on poster board. The map must have a title, a key, a compass rose, 5 geographical features/land forms, 3 landmarks of students' choosing, and be neat and colorful. Also included is the scoring guide I used to grade students' projects.
